City in Transition
City tour from a landscape planning and urban development perspective
The historic old town of Freising is getting fit for the city of tomorrow! On this group tour, learn more about the barrier-free inner city redevelopment and the underlying concept: the integrated inner city development concept, unanimously approved by the city council in 2011 and consistently implemented since then.
There is a lot to discover along the Magistrale from east to west. Starting from the city model, you will experience the newly designed city centre of the Untere Hauptstraße with the opportunities to linger and the new planting elements. In the meantime, numerous freshly renovated town houses line the street space, which are worth marvelling at. In the central area of the old town you can experience the direct comparison: Here, a section of the "car-friendly city" still exists. In this section, which has not yet been converted, we show you the sample area with the new paving stones and the "tactile edge" serving as a guidance system for the blind.
The heart of the redesign is undoubtedly the uncovering of the Stadtmoosach in the area of the Obere Hauptstraße. Experience and enjoy the generously designed urban space at the steps of the open stream. Find out first-hand how the conversion went, what difficulties had to be overcome, - and judge for yourself the newly won quality of stay.
And who knows, you might even meet a mouse and a bear along the way. Or you can take a detour to the historic beer cellars at the entrance to the Lindenkeller.
