See and experience Freising's history at the City Museum

Located on the first floor of the Asam Building, the City Museum takes visitors on an informative and exciting tour of Freising's inner courtyard and its history. The focus is on around 350 selected objects or groups of objects – from prehistoric archaeological finds to the diverse and precious sculptures and handicrafts of the old bishopric town to documents from Freising's recent past. Media stations provide additional information and in-depth explanations.

In addition to the rooms for the permanent exhibition, the museum also has rooms for special events and museum education. A museum shop rounds off the offering.

Access is barrier-free.

Special exhibition ‘Yesterday's Snow’

With ‘Yesterday's Snow – Winter in Freising’, the City Museum is hosting an exhibition until Sunday, 22 February 2026, that showcases winter in all its facets. On display are objects and artefacts from different centuries, including three 17th-century tiles, cast-iron stove plates, historical ice skates and skis, a large horse-drawn sleigh, film footage from 1952, and paintings depicting Freising of yesteryear in impressive snowy scenes.

Further information can be found on the ‘Unsere Tipps’ page (German only).
